REST API Development
A clear, documented API behind your website and mobile app
REST API Development
A mobile app, a customer portal and a partner's system often need the same data from your backend. We build REST APIs in Laravel or Node.js that serve them all, with predictable URLs, the right HTTP status codes, consistent error messages, paginated lists and a version number in the path so older app versions keep working. Each API comes with OpenAPI documentation that your developers, or a partner's, can read and test against.
What We Deliver
What's included in REST API Development.
Consistent endpoints
Resource-based URLs, standard HTTP methods and status codes, and the same response shape across the whole API.
Login and permissions
Token login with Laravel Sanctum, OAuth2 or API keys, depending on who calls the API, plus checks on what each user or client may read and change.
OpenAPI documentation
An OpenAPI (Swagger) spec with request and response examples, and a Postman collection if your team uses Postman.
Rate limits
Limits per user or API key, so one busy client or a faulty script does not slow the API down for everyone else.
Versioning and pagination
A version in the URL, such as /v1/, and paginated lists, so older app versions keep working while the API changes.
Validation and errors
Incoming data is validated, and errors come back in one consistent format with a message the app can show or log.
Our Process
How the work runs, step by step.
Agree the contract
We list the resources, fields and actions with you and write them into an OpenAPI spec, so app and API work can start at the same time.
Build
Endpoints are built to the spec, with authentication, validation, rate limits and error handling in place from the first release.
Test and document
Automated tests cover the main flows and the permission checks, and the documentation is updated to match what was built.
Deploy and support
We deploy to your server with logging switched on, and add new versions as your apps need them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about REST API Development.
If your website or admin panel already runs on Laravel, building the API in the same application is usually simplest, since it shares the database and business rules. Node.js suits teams that already work in JavaScript, or apps that keep many live connections open. We recommend one after looking at what you have.
Yes, as long as we can access the code and database. We can add an API to the existing application, or put a separate API in front of the same database if the old code is hard to change. We review it first and tell you which is safer.
Requests need a valid token or API key, except for endpoints you choose to make public. Permissions are checked on the server, not in the app, input is validated before it is used, and all traffic runs over HTTPS. If you want a second check, we also offer security audits and code reviews.
It should not. Adding new fields does not affect apps that ignore them. A change that would break older apps goes into a new version, such as /v2/, and the old version keeps running until your users have updated.
Yes. You get the OpenAPI documentation and the full source code, so your own developers, a partner or another agency can build on it.
Other Backend & APIs services
- GraphQL API GraphQL APIs in Node.js or Laravel that let web and mobile apps fetch the fields they need in one request, built new or added to an existing backend.
- Microservices Architecture Splitting a large application into separate services where it helps, using Docker, Kubernetes and message queues, and keeping it whole where it does not.
- Database Optimization Speeding up slow MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases with better queries, indexes and caching, measured before and after.
