Income Tax Return Filing in Ahmedabad for Individuals and Businesses

Who it's for

This is for the salaried employee on SG Highway with a Form 16 or Form 130, the retired teacher in Maninagar with a pension and FD interest, the family in Satellite that sold one flat and rents out another, and the doctor or freelance designer who bills clients directly. It also covers the proprietor with a unit in Naroda GIDC, partnership firms, LLPs and companies. If tax was deducted from income below the taxable limit, filing a return is how you get it back.

What's included

  • Choosing the right ITR form for what you earned in the year, not the one you used last time.
  • Checking your Annual Information Statement (AIS) and TDS credits against your records, and flagging wrong entries.
  • Old and new regime comparison for individuals, on your actual figures.
  • Computation of income and tax under every head of income, using the presumptive scheme where you qualify and it helps.
  • Advance tax instalments, due by 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March once your tax for the year under the advance tax rules is ₹10,000 or more. Resident senior citizens with no business or professional income don't have to pay it. Businesses and professionals on the presumptive scheme for turnover or receipts pay it all by 15 March; goods-carriage owners on the presumptive scheme still pay in instalments.
  • Filing and e-verification, then refund follow-up, including bank account pre-validation and reissue requests.
  • Belated, revised and updated returns, replies to defective-return and adjustment notices, rectification requests and responses to tax demands.
  • For businesses under tax audit, books and schedules prepared for the audit, which a practising Chartered Accountant has to sign, so the report is ready before the return is filed.

Documents required

  • PAN, Aadhaar linked to it, e-filing login, tax challans, last year's return and any notices.
  • Form 130 from each employer in the year (Form 16 for 2025-26 and earlier), or pension and TDS details.
  • Bank statements and interest certificates.
  • Capital gains statements from your broker and mutual funds, and deeds for any property sold.
  • Rent received, AMC property tax receipts and home loan interest certificates.
  • Proofs of old-regime deductions, such as insurance premiums, PPF and tuition fees.
  • For a business: books or Tally data, final accounts, GST and TDS returns, and the audit report where applicable.
  • For firms and companies: the partnership deed or LLP agreement and, for companies and audited businesses, the signatory's digital signature.

Typical timeline

Once your Form 130 or Form 16, AIS and bank details are in, a salaried or pension return is usually ready within a few working days, and you approve the computation before we file. Capital gains, rent or a business take longer, and audited businesses file after the audit report. The return must then be verified within 30 days of uploading. Refunds are processed only after verification, and only into a bank account validated on the portal. Past-year work is quoted after we check your portal status.

Why Ahmedabad taxpayers work with us

Our office is at Parswanath Chambers on Ashram Road, near the Income Tax circle. We work with clients across Ahmedabad, and with clients elsewhere in India when the work can be done online. We usually collect your documents and meet by appointment, so call or WhatsApp first, as the team is often out at clients' offices. If you want an income tax consultant for the whole year rather than only at filing time, we also work out advance tax instalments and reply to notices. The senior partner has more than 15 years of experience in accounting and tax, the other partner more than five. Because we also handle bookkeeping, GST, TDS and payroll, business returns are checked against your other filings before they go in.

Frequently asked questions

Which ITR form should I file?

For 2025-26 (assessment year 2026-27), ITR-1 is for residents, other than those not ordinarily resident, with total income up to ₹50 lakh from salary or pension, house property and other sources such as interest and dividends, plus long-term gains on listed shares or equity funds up to ₹1.25 lakh. It can't be used by a company director, or by anyone with unlisted shares, foreign assets or income, short-term capital gains, or losses to carry forward. ITR-2 covers other individuals without business income, and ITR-3 those with business or professional income. ITR-4 is an optional form for residents on the presumptive scheme with total income up to ₹50 lakh. Firms and LLPs file ITR-5, companies ITR-6.

Should I choose the old or the new tax regime?

The new regime is the default, with lower slab rates but few deductions. The old regime can still cost less if you claim large deductions, such as home loan interest on the house you live in, PPF or insurance premiums. Without business income, you choose each year in a return filed by the due date. With business or professional income, opting out has to be done by the due date (for 2025-26, on Form 10-IEA), and you can switch back to the new regime only once.

I missed the due date. What can I still do?

A belated return can be filed until 31 December after the year ends, unless the assessment is completed first. If you were required to file, the late fee is ₹5,000, or ₹1,000 if total income is ₹5 lakh or less, plus interest on unpaid tax. If you were not required to file and are only claiming back TDS, there is no late fee. We check which applies before filing. Business and capital losses in a late return cannot be carried forward, and without business income the old regime is no longer an option for that year. After that, an updated return is possible within 48 months from the end of the financial year after the income year. It needs additional tax and cannot reduce tax or increase a refund.

I have received an intimation or a notice. What should I do?

Check the deadline first, then reply through e-Proceedings on the e-filing portal. A defective-return notice usually allows 15 days, and ignoring it can make the return invalid. A notice proposing adjustments during processing allows 30 days to agree or disagree. An obvious mistake in the intimation that follows can be fixed with a rectification request. If you disagree with a demand, say so on the portal, or it is confirmed and adjusted against any refund. Disagreeing doesn't cancel a demand by itself; a wrong demand is corrected through rectification or appeal.

What is the last date to file my income tax return?

The return is due on 31 July after the year ends if you have no business or professional income, and on 31 August if you do but your accounts need no audit. Companies and anyone whose accounts must be audited have until 31 October, and transfer pricing cases until 30 November. A belated return can be filed until 31 December, and a revised return until 31 March, twelve months after the year ends, unless the assessment is completed first. The tax department sometimes extends these dates.
